Key and powerful messages on DAY 2 of the #LastGirlFirst World Congress in New Delhi !

“We must be the change that we want to see”. Sarah Benson opened the World Conference in New Delhi against prostitution with the famous quote by Mohandas Gandhi and added “we can’t ignore what we know about prostitution and its impacts”, and we must gather all the ideas and motivation to take action.

Priority for the most vulnerable women !

All over the world and throughout history, the most systematically disadvantaged groups have been overrepresented in sex exploitation and prostitution. 6 survivors of the most marginalized women and girls delivered their tough universal stories of life in prostitution and some very key messages.

Prostitution is a highly gendered and patriarchal system that disproportionately impacts the most vulnerable women and children : young girls, indigenous women and children, ethnic minorities, people of colour, low caste communities, migrants, victims of incest and sexual violence.

Transcontinental solutions for the Last Girls !

The #LastGirlFirst conference offered the unique opportunity to assess the reality of prostitution and sexual exploitation in each country of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, with its 12 representatives.

Flows of trafficking for sexual exploitation in the SAARC region increases at an alarming level (Nepal to India, Bangladesh to Pakistan and India and inside India etc…) with complex issues (forced marriage, prostitution, sex trafficking, domestic workers). Most of speakers representatives from India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh explained the necessity of coordinating efforts to fight against transnational trafficking despite the lack of will on this issue.

-       Launch of a global coalition of trade unions standing together against commercial sexual exploitation

-       Conference about the best legislative frameworks to end commercial sexual exploitation

-       Strategic workshops with the new generation of abolitionist leaders, and private sector about the value of new technologies in the fight against commercial sexual exploitation
