Episode 4 of our podcast series "Under our eyes"
In this episode of Sous nos yeux/Right Under Our Eyes, Dr Dines alerts about the ongoing crisis that the pornography industry generates.
'In a culture saturated by pornography, you cannot ignore pornography.'
There are references to pornography in advertisements, TV shows, fashion, sometimes even accessories for little girls. Yet, there seems to be little discussion about what is actually going on in the production of pornography, the consequences for women and the impact on children.
Dr Gail Dines is Professor Emerita of Sociology and Women’s Studies of the Wheelock College, Boston. She has researched and written on pornography for more than thirty years and is the internationally acclaimed expert on the topic. Her book 'Pornland: How Porn Has Hijacked Our Sexuality' has been translated into five languages. She is the founder and president of Culture Reframed, ‘building resilience and resistance to hypersexualised media and porn’.
When are we going to acknowledge the elephant in the room?
